CryoEM 101 for the University of Utah is LIVE

In November, we launched a new site working with a team of scientists at The University of Utah and it’s slick as anything.  You can check it out here: https://cryoem101.org.  New chapters will rollout in the coming months, but the first is live now.

The “why” behind the site is summarized as:

Cryo EM has emerged as a powerful tool for high-resolution structure determination.  To aid the training efforts of newcomers to the field, we are creating a media-rich curriculum to augment users’ own hands-on training. The training material will contain videos, animations, and interactive simulations that cover the major components of the cryo-EM workflow.

This subject is pretty intense for a crew of web pros with a solid “C”  average in science.  Well, we weren’t needed for our scientific expertise, but instead for our ability to mix WordPress design/development with custom JavaScript functionality to take their work and make it beautiful in any browser.

Work included:

  • Site design
  • Site development in WordPress
  • Some copywriting
  • Content Production
  • Interactive module development (example here)
  • Ongoing maintenance & future content development and production

Here’s a shot of the “About” page and the folks behind all of the powerful content/assets on the site:

The Team behind the site.

For us, a great project.  Everything was smooth and came together fast.  Using Slack for communication across the team was a treat.

Also, this is a new blog for us and I’m happy to kick it off bragging about this project.  Hello world!
